Gena Perala Releases Empowering New Single “I’m Gone”
May 13, 2025 – Singer-songwriter Gena Perala (pronounced as Jenna) from Vancouver returns with new single “I’m Gone”, a striking alt-rock/country blend that explores the moment you choose yourself and walk away from anything that no longer serves you. The single also drops with a music video featuring Gena, with cheerleaders rallying behind her for this newest musical venture. Watch it here.
Written during the isolation of the pandemic, “I’m Gone” emerged from a period of deep reflection about time, relationships, and self-worth. Speaking on the single, Gena shares:
“Remember when we had to choose our ‘COVID circle’? That really made me evaluate who I give my energy to. At first, this song was about a job, but it evolved into something more. It’s about relationships too—because isn’t everything?”
Recorded live at Afterlife Studios in Vancouver, “I’m Gone” captures the raw, first-take energy between Gena Perala and a seasoned studio band assembled by producer (and bass player) Erik Nielsen. With Scott Smith on banjo and lead guitar, Matt Kelly on pedal steel and hammond organ, and drummers Geoff Hicks and Leon Power, the session brought Perala’s vision to life in real time. Marking their first in-person collaboration, the track’s creative process transformed into an unforgettable moment of connection and creativity.
